Many practices send their out-of-hours calls to a separate emergency clinic, often half an hour away, where nobody knows your pet. We don’t. The 24/7 line rings here, and a Fernhallow vet answers.

When to call

Call whenever you are worried. Some things should never wait: collapse or fitting, trouble breathing, a swollen belly with retching, a blocked cat, a rabbit that has stopped eating, anything poisonous, bleeding that will not stop, or a road accident. If you are not sure, the symptom checker will help you decide, and the vet on duty will always talk it through.

What to bring

The packet or wrapper if they ate something. A sample if it is easy to get. Your phone, so we can reach you. Don’t wait to find the vaccination card; we have the notes.

Fees

An out-of-hours consultation is £165 (£195 on bank holidays). The vet gives you an estimate for any treatment before it starts, and phone advice is always free. Health plan members save 10% on emergency treatment too.
