- Day surgery, home the same evening
Neutering prevents unwanted litters, some cancers and womb infections, and a fair amount of roaming and fighting. It is the most common operation we do, and we do it carefully.
How the day works
Drop off between 8.00 and 8.45am with no breakfast (rabbits and guinea pigs should eat as normal). The vet checks your pet, answers any last questions and confirms the price. Most pets are awake by lunchtime, and the vet who operated rings you to arrange a collection time, usually between 4 and 6pm.
When to neuter
- Cats: from four months, before they go outside.
- Dogs: from six months for most; large and giant breeds often later. We will advise by breed and size.
- Rabbits: from about four months for males and five months for females.
Prices
Cat and rabbit prices are fixed. Dog prices depend on weight, and you get a written price at the pre-op check before anything is booked. Health plan members save 10%.
